It is unfortunate that in our world today some communities continue to suffer from marginalization and undermining. The community of Ghajar is exposed to unprecedented wave of injustice and discrimination. European countries notably France and Italy are planning to remove and send away this minority from their places for inconvincible reasons.

Since they came from India to Europe 1000 years ago, Ghajar people occupied a marginalized position in European affairs. They did not have a specific place where they lived in and never declared war against any nation. Scientifically, It did not appear among this people recognized figures for producing some achievements at the international level. In the past, they earned for their lives through different ways. Basically they worked in "witchcraft ", horse trade and fraud. They were known as unproductive society that deceived according to circumstances. However, regardless to their situation they lived in their private world.

Although, recently a few number of Ghajar people emerged as cultural heroes outside their original community, few of them also had bad reputation because the crimes they committed. This fact made Nicola Sarkozi and Berli Skoni to turn world attention that this minority is a serious security threat in order to collectively expulse them from their countries. Part of Ghajar community was considered to be meant by "Criminal Clans Law" that was issued in 1871 by Great Britain which said that 161 clans as "children of criminals". However, a late study concluded that this law came as a result to extreme ignorance to social construction of the cultural institutions. But the question now is. Will France and Italy commit the same mistakes when they extradite Ghajar people collectively from their countries? And what are the hidden reasons behind this decision.

Sarkozy immigration policy sparked the light on Ghajar people and put them in the center of world attention, something that puhsed Italy which previously considered them as a goupe of criminals to put them among the list of expulsion. The number of Ghajar in Italy who immigrated from Balcan five centuries ago reached around 180 thousands person which outnumbered even those who lived in Britain but they remained different from Italian due to their language and traditions.

During the two recent decades this situation changed because a huge number of Ghajar arrived to the western world coming from Eastern Europe: Croatia, Bosnia, and Kosovo running from the devastating wars that ruined Yugoslavia in the beginning of 9th of last century. They came also form Romania after the assassination of its president Nicolay Shousisko and the opening of borders in the same time.

the critical moments where when Romania was admitted into European Union January 2007which facilitated to Romanian nationals to move inside all European countries. Southlands of immigrants moved to Italy causing problems to the government as it was difficult to send them off to their own countries .

Now, as European countries are standing to disturb this people lives and kick them out to the unknown, miserable future hangs over this community. Ironically, Ghajar people acceptedely supported by communist regime Soviet Union which was criticized by the west for underming human rights. When Soviet Union fell apart this people were obliged to move toward Western Europe to a better life. Researches' have been done about this nation in terms of origins, religion, and culture. Nevetherless, till now, there is no striking evidence about their origins.

Mauritania is a place of inspiration. When you visit this country, your life will change. Spiritual seekers swear of substantially sand dunes, giddily deep canyons and large eye-popping plateaus. Sure there are several places to be discovered in West Africa but few are like those in Mauritania. This is the impression that a group of tourists came up with when they visited the country. they were truthful in what they went to. According to a recent statistics made by local ministry of culture and tourism more than eight thousand tourists visited Mauritania this year. Mauritania’s natural diversity as its colorful population stands to be a rare place for education, culture, moral values, love and peace. It has been giving the world a peak of mature, dynamic, initiative and balanced scholars and unbeaten poets. Wherever our students apply for study they major. We have been boldly competing others in international assignments despite that we are few in number and others are counted in crowds. Hospitality is noticed to everyone who takes the chance to land in our country. You might be surprised that in some of our cities, no existence to hotels, visitors are hosted for free. When you investigate in this humanly honorable treatment, you will find that people there are naturally generous! All of what they possess is a sacrifice for their dignity. Of course they do business and collect money but in accordance to locally social criteria. It is not just like what it is in parts of the world where people do whatever they can get away with it. Wealth never tempts them to do shameful actions; for them charging a visitor is considered as a shame. Moreover, hospitality is ordered in the Holly Quran our constitution. Unfortunately, most of the good traditions that we inherited from our forefathers are gradually disappearing due to the overwhelming globalization.

I read recently a book that stuck out of me. The book was for John C. Maxwell entitled Be All You Can Be. This book is a major resource for building a good personality. It guides us to probe into our internal world and investigate about how we can face the challenge to stretch our potential and finally establish a successful life that is full of happiness, planning and experience. In fact, it is an orientation for self -determination as an attempt to strengthen our potential to lead our own life. Stretching is defined as a kind of self-motivation. It is a step further to be there first and always able to take what life throws at you. It is a courageous feeling that nothing is impossible as long as we have determination
Throughout my reading I came across some inspirational ideas that I want to share with you here:
There are uncountable obstacles in the individual life that stand between him and his future. Shyness, fear, discouragement, laziness and hopefulness are a direct cause for our failure. In a large part of our community some individuals hold an inner negative assessment about themselves and as a result of that they develop a sort of weak easily swayed personality, personality that is afraid of future and unable to productively engage in the society. And this is what the book is talking about.
People who are not stretching prefer to stay in more secure position. They don’t like to risk. Although they are naturally born stretching, they find latter that this attitude exposes them to danger. As a result they give up; they don’t want to confront with life outcomings. In this case, they match stretching with hardship, something that stops them from continuing to stretch.

For those who keep stretching, are in a position that makes them vulnerable to people comments because they are facing the challenge. Unfortunately, road to success is full of critics. People take it to criticize others and lower from the importance of what they themselves failed in or not ready to do
Jonas Salk, who developed the polio vaccine, was attacked continually for his creative, inventive work in the medical field. He found that there are three kinds of criticism. The first one is when people tell you that you are wrong. After they have seen you doing well in your life, they say that what you are doing is not really that important. Finally, after they see that it is important, they will say that they are convicted that you can do some good things. The best thing to do to face people critics is the fruit of your labor.
You should never quit that habit of stretching in order to stay in a defensive situation. What you are doing is the right thing and continue to do it even though they are cutting you off. People who know the value of success will appreciate it those who don’t appreciate it will lower from your effort anyway.

Luck of understanding can be another factor of limiting from our potential. Maxwell precisely elaborates in this point by saying,

We are also vulnerable to misunderstanding. Often people whose own motives are wrong will feel threatened by us if we are stretching to be our best. They react by questioning the validity of our motives, accusing us of doing our best for some impure purpose.
For Maxwell, much of the blame is to us.

Not only are we vulnerable to the reactions of others, but we can be vulnerable to ourselves. We are often harder on ourselves, than other people are. If we have no goals, we won’t recognize failure, but if we’re stretching for success, we will fail from time to time. We need to learn how to deal with that. Don’t ever let failure become final. be aware that discouragement is failure’s partner. The best way to pull yourself out of discouragement is to surround yourself by people who are encouragers. Get a friend who really understands the value of affirmation, who really believes in you. Do you know the best way to get encouragers around you? Become an encourager yourself.

In these paragraphs, we have discussed criticism, failure, misunderstanding and discouragement. Never allow one of these things prevent you from achieving your goals and objectives. In order to succeed in that mission, you need first to ask yourself for a moment where are you vulnerable?
For Maxwell there are some reasons why people stop stretching. The first reason is that they put themselves around people who are bored and boring. His advice for us is to stay around those who are actively alive if we want to be productive in the society and realize our dreams. This is because we will get the needed inspiration and know what is better for us by learning from good examples.

Secondly, work duties become easy job to do as we reputedly do the same thing for a long time. This necessitates on us to look always for new goals, new dimensions and new strategies so life will be renewing itself before our eyes and finally we become compassionate about our daily life

In your stretching periods you will probably have more problems than at any other time, and those will be the great times of your life.

Mauritania finds its real face in this season. Earth takes green color and sky loads with clouds and rains every time so giving a fantastic atmosphere where people enjoy themselves in a warmly familiar environment.

At this peak time when everybody is preparing to this occasion some are living the experience on TV screens. Citizens living outside even though they physically are not there, they feel touched to home and jump of joy every time there is news about rain at home. This occasion is a relief for Mauritanians. They forget life over-ridings. The focus becomes on how they will spend the autumn and where. Although the occasion costs, memorable moments are spent there and this repeatedly is renewed every year.

It is such an amazing time that we used to spent it with our lovely families and friends. Congratulations to whomever got the chance to be there.

Thank you for your nice comments. With respect to our diplomas, I have no idea about the university closing. We should normally get them before the end of this academic year. I'll be there in three weeks, inchAllah, and I I'll provide more information.

Mauritanian tea is part of our culture. Here,"warga" and "nana" are sheap. We drink tea day and night. Although I'm not addicted to it, I can't imagine myself in a place where there is no tea.

Oh, much ink spilled on the importance of tea and its place among Mauritanian society. It is such a substance that none of us can live without! Congregations are made around it in nearly every home in Mauritania. However, people there do not realize its true value. Probably, because they drink dozens of it on a daily basis and they can find it wherever they go.

Nevertheless, what about the expatriates who live far from that warmly national environment? I think we are deprived from it, not because of a ban but due to the circumstance one lives. For example, sometimes you are on duty sometimes you are in transportation and when you get home you retire.

As for people diet system, they eat at workplace something that put us through to the same habit. Turning to kitchen to find something to refresh your mind with, you are exposed to a range of selected coffee and lepton-tea bands, but none of these sounds to smell like our tea even if you add milk or extra-sugar. In some occasions when we are lucky enough to pour tea in usually one single day weekend, it seems like a kind of celebration. There we talk, and come across different topics starting from Mauritania politics to vacation.

So worm up and live with Mauritanian Tea wherever you are.

Moustapha, you can't imagine when you asked whether I still have one of Mrs. Green's handout or not.

Actually, I still have them all here with me in Morocco, starting from our Third year class's handouts, courses, and test papers till our fourth year's. You know, even my mother mocked at me when we were so heavy in the airport because I specified a bag for all of my books and handouts.

As for the weather here, it is pretty warm these days unlike what it should be in this particular period of the year (as people who were here before us mentioned).

Next week would be our final exams week; then, we will wait for a while, which I hope, it won't last long till they would show up their results for we could go back home.

This is how our life like in these days.

I'm sorry for not answering to your reply where you mentioned your experience on the Symposium of Second Language writing in Arizona.

As Tekber said, our first writing classes were quite challenging. The curriculum of the Master (Studies in English Language and Culture) is geared towards language and literature. Mastery of English language is compulsory. Most teachers, if not all, expect Master students to have a high command of the language.

Both Tekber and me were having difficult times to adapt to this new environment. We were compeled to radically shift from our "usual" and "simple" writng to a new "sophisticated" and "tricky" style. Now, I think we're in the process to meet the teachers' expectations.

As Mrs. Green argued above, the conventions of rhetorics vary from one place to another, from one culture to another as well as from one field to another. Students should be exposed to different styles of writing so that they could select the appropriate one when time comes.

Our writing classes in Nouakchott are effective because they expose to students one of the prevaling styles of writing around the world.

It`s my turn to share with you some of what I have been through here in UAE.

October 12, 2009 out of Algerian B 238 Flight, I stamped my passport at Dubai International Airport. What a huge airport! You can`t imagine how it was big and complicating. Things seemed different from where I came. It was a world of luxury, modernity and comfort. Everybody spoke different language. I heard Ordo, Philippino, Chinese, Indi, Arab and English.

Ten days later, I started rooming around the country in one of the best world class transportation facilities. Remember Dubai Metro?

I visited Hypermarkets, Malls, Exhibitions, Sport Stadiums, Beaches and so on. However, there were backlash that ruined my happiness and good time. I stayed jobless for one month and half, something that would have sent me back home if I did not regulate my visa status. In addition to that, life here was so demanding. Abu Dhabi was an accommodation for people of high class.

Searching along for job openings, I started to attend job exhibitions that lonely targeted nationals (Emiratis). I met a delegation for National Health Insurance Company called Daman which was Abu Dhabi based joint company at AD University Career Fair 2009 and they gave me the chance to work for them as a temporary production assistant after I went through two working days assessment test.

It was an important step that allowed me to settle in the country and I transported my visa to the sponsorship of prestigiously UAE`s first visited hospital Al Noor Hospital where I am working now in Patient Service Department.

In these days, we are at the end of our semester 2 (you know, LMD style) so that there is still 3 or 4 weeks before my coming back home.

In response to your questions, Mrs. Green, my mother came with me for a short time in a reason to enroll me and simultaneously to check my surrounding, so we haven’t met again after that.

And for my twin sister, she is still at home. After her graduation from UVA (Université virtuelle africaine) this winter, she subsequently got a job in BAMIS, one of Mauritania's banks, as a computer engineer. Thus, she doesn't currently thinking of continuing her study abroad.

I am certainly glad to share my experience in Morocco with you. Your positive reactions and logical explanations have brought me many benefits.

You are no doubt correct about the French influence in terms of style. And that, of course, is what I was trying to teach "against" …. But when you are living in an environment where there is a strong French influence in the educational environment, then French rhetorical conventions will gain superiority.

But remember, it is always your choice as a writer to use the style that will best suit your purposes. If your purpose is to please a university environment that prefers a French style rhetoric, then by all means use it. If you are working on a Women's Rights Committee that has strong funding from North America, then you would adopt a North American English rhetorical style in order to make your writing strong within that linguistic environment.

I am proud of you that you are off studying in Morocco. Does your mother come often to visit you? Where is your sister studying? You must miss living with you twin.

Allow me to elaborate a little bit on the subject.

Probabilly, Mangan`s background to some extent squares with Morrocan Professors`s in the sense that they recieved education in frensh language. In fact, they have the same ground of thinking at least. So we can find there some links that make both sides easily get access to each other. Possibley, Mangan could have read to some Frensh Historical Authers such as Jean Jack Rosso, Chateau Brien or Lamartine whose great inspirtations obviously weighed on Morrocan Professors style.

For the case of Tikber, she does not have to fill that gap because she have got different upbrinings and if she writes in different style that makes her special and unique and cannot be considered as inconveniant or informal.

Being Frensh and English speaker, and through my experience in IFEE in Dakar University and later in NKCTT University, i figured out that Frensh Speakers pay attention to the form and the impact of words unlike English speakers who are more intersted in the meaning and ideas rather than style.

At least, I can now feel that my writing method is not necessary a backward style.

Through your valuable explanations, I reached to a point. That is, these people are very demanded because they only used to speak and write via the language of literature. Besides, I should not also forget to relate part of the cause behind this manner to their French speaking environment.

So, I admit that their well-educated style is someting that certainly deserves to be saluted.

In fact, due to their often demandes, I currently adopte a style that can allow me to integrate some pompous words inside my writing but in a condition that it won't spoil the flow of my ideas.

This partial shift can be related to the fact I'm not a good French speaker. On other hand, Salif Mangan, who is studying with me in the same unite, makes a radical shift in his writing. As a follow up, I personally relate his change to perhaps his inner voice that allows him to mingle his sophisticated French vocabulary with his English language.

In my opinion, that's why they now consider him as a formal writer whereas they consider me as "a bit" formal writer.

What you said is very true. However, we always need to remember the audience. As you said, an embassy wants a letter that is direct and clear.

So we need to consider the culture of our readers and look at their expectations. As Tekber mentioned, some professors prefer English to be written in a style that is appropriate perhaps to their own culture, rather than to a concise "to the point" North American culture. And that is good. Remember the concept of "World Englishes" from Linguistics?

If i would like to add a comment to what Mrs Green mentioned, i would say that most of English Speakers prefer that the writer go directly to the point without giving unneeded information that can comfuse the reader. Also, we have to consider the time he or she might spend reading regardless to the writer`s style

And the way we write to an ambassy, ministry or company can be an expamle. People want you to be very spesific and clear

In the fall of 2009, I gave a presentation at the Symposium of Second Language writing in Arizona. One of the points that I came across in my research about using Arabic rhetorical styles when writing English is that the writer needs to think about his/her audience.

So that means if you are writing in English for an American or Canadian audience, you will write with very focussed paragraphs and pithy sentences. No "hot air".

If you are writing in Mauritania in an English language newspaper, you will use a Hassaniya style of writing, even though you are writing in English. You need to make your style suit your audience.

then when you are writing in Morocco for the professors there, you must also think about what style of writing they want. So even though you are always writing in English, the rhetorical style will depend upon your audience.

That is the "post-colonial" way of looking at rhetoric. It is up to you to choose the style that is appropriate for your audience. it is not up to ME as the native speaker to tell you what style to use. You will use the style that is most effective in each case.

What a time!

I do really feel like it has been years since the last time we interacted with each other.

Today, I got back that feeling of homesickness again when I had read my ex-classmates' remarkes about our wonderful journey in NKTT University.

I just want to salute you through this amazing website and say that I'm still one of its great followers due to I always keep opening it once per a week. So, it hasn't at least deserted yet by me, as Moustafa considered.

Besides, I want to deeply thank you for your valuable conduction to my writing along the last two well-remembered years.
